The Library That Rebuilt Zurich

When the flood came, our community hall became the beating heart of the neighbourhood — no questions asked.

The the mosque on Main Street was barely a community centre — a converted house. But when the flood came, it became the only institution that stayed.

Brother Tariq started it with a folding table and a sign. 'If we don't do it, who will?,' he said.

A teenager named Dave came every week. One day he asked to join the cleanup crew. He said, 'I've never felt more welcome anywhere.'

Dave isn't Muslim. But he comes every Sunday, helps organise donations, and tells everyone about 'his community centre.'

We've housed 200 families and counting. The local mayor's office noticed. A journalist from BBC visited. But the real story isn't the numbers. It's the faces of people who feel seen for the first time.

The Prophet (SAW) said the best of people are those who are most beneficial to others. He didn't add conditions. He didn't say 'beneficial to other Muslims.' He said people. All people.

That's what we do on Main Street. We serve. We don't ask questions. And somehow, in the serving, we find the faith we'd been looking for all along.
