20 years of the most dangerous viruses
It’s been 20 years since the world’s most dangerous viruses first appeared. Here’s a look at where they came from, how they’ve changed, and what we can do to stop them.
The most dangerous viruses in the world first appeared in the early 1990s. Since then, they’ve killed millions of people and caused billions of dollars in damage.
The most dangerous viruses are usually the ones that are the most contagious. They can spread quickly through a population, causing large numbers of people to become sick and many to die.
The most dangerous viruses can also mutate, making them even more difficult to control. As they evolve, they become more resistant to drugs and vaccines. This makes them even more dangerous.
The most dangerous viruses in the world include:
Ebola virus – first appeared in Africa in 1976. Has caused several major outbreaks, the most recent in West Africa in 2014-2016. Has a 50% fatality rate.
Marburg virus – first appeared in Africa in 1967. Causes severe hemorrhagic fever. There is no vaccine or treatment.
Rift Valley fever virus – first appeared in Africa in 1930. Causes severe hemorrhagic fever and has a fatality rate of up to 30%.
SARS virus – first appeared in China in 2002. Causes a severe respiratory illness. There is no vaccine or treatment.
Smallpox virus – first appeared in Egypt in the 11th century. Was eradicated in 1980. However, there are concerns that it could be used as a bioweapon.
Yellow fever virus – first appeared in Africa in the 18th century. Causes a severe hemorrhagic fever. There is a vaccine, but it is not 100% effective.
These are just some of the most dangerous viruses in the world. There are many others that are also dangerous and have caused major outbreaks.
The best way to protect yourself from these viruses is to get vaccinated. If you are traveling to an area where these viruses are present, make sure to take precautions to avoid exposure.
These viruses are a major threat to global health. We need to be vigilant in our efforts to control them..Click here for more
The most destructive computer viruses
One of the most destructive computer viruses in history is the Love Bug virus, which struck in May 2000. Also known as the ILOVEYOU virus, it was a
mass-mailing worm that spread itself by emailing a copy of itself to everyone in the victim’s address book. The email appeared to come from a
friend or lover, with the subject line “ILOVEYOU” and an attachment called “LOVE-LETTER-FOR-YOU.TXT.VBS”. When opened, the attachment
replicated itself and forwarded itself on to everyone in the victim’s address book. The virus caused an estimated $5.5 billion in damages, making
it the most costly virus in history.
Other destructive viruses include the Melissa virus, which struck in 1999 and caused an estimated $80 million in damages, and the MyDoom
virus, which struck in 2004 and caused an estimated $38 billion in damages. Both of these viruses were mass-mailing worms that spread
themselves by emailing a copy of themselves to everyone in the victim’s address book.
The most destructive computer virus ever created, however, is the Flame virus. Unlike other viruses, which are designed to cause widespread
damage, the Flame virus was designed for espionage. It infects computers and then monitors all communication going in and out of the infected
computer. It can record audio, take screenshots, and even intercept and modify email messages. The virus is believed to have been created by a
nation state, possibly the United States or Israel, and used to spy on targets in Iran.
While the Love Bug, Melissa, and MyDoom viruses caused a lot of damage, they were all eventually contained and stopped. The Flame virus,
however, is still active and is believed to be infecting computers in Iran, Russia, and other countries.
