IslamHood

About this site

IslamHood answers practical, everyday questions, mostly about ingredients and finances, with sourced information rather than a single confident-sounding opinion. It exists because too many pages answering these questions have something to sell.

How we handle disagreement

Islamic scholarship genuinely differs on some of the questions this site covers, from insect-derived ingredients to which nisab standard to use for zakat. Where that's true, we say so plainly and explain the reasoning on each side rather than picking one answer and presenting it as settled. Where scholarly consensus is broad, we say that too.

Not a fatwa

Nothing on this site is a religious ruling. It's general information sourced from published scholarly positions and recognized certification bodies, meant to help you ask your own scholar a more informed question, not to replace asking one. For anything genuinely important to your situation, especially where sources disagree, speak to a scholar you trust.

The tools

The ingredient checker and zakat calculator both run entirely in your browser and don't send anything you enter to any server.

How the site pays for itself

Some pages link to certified halal products or services relevant to the topic, and the site may earn a commission if you buy through one of those links. The information doesn't change based on what pays.

How pages get updated

Certification bodies and published scholarly positions do shift over time, particularly on newer questions like lab-grown meat or insect-derived ingredients, so pages get revisited rather than left static. We don't rank one school of thought against another as more correct; where different schools reach different conclusions, we try to name that plainly and explain why, rather than quietly picking a side and presenting it as the only view.
